Osso da Baleia Beach
Come and discover
Osso da Baleia beach is the only beach in the municipality of Pombal and is located in the parish of Carriço. Since 1998, it has been classified as a Golden Beach because it preserves the ecological balance and allows for tourism while fully respecting existing environmental constraints. This award also aims to raise awareness and promote environmental education, alerting citizens to the value and importance of maintaining and protecting natural environments.
Located in the heart of the Urso National Forest, the beach has been awarded the Blue Flag award year after year since 2004, a result of the good quality of its waters, as well as the Accessible Beach award, since it offers a range of facilities for people with disabilities or reduced mobility: pedestrian access, organized parking, access to the bathing area, walkway on the sand, adapted toilets and access to the first aid post.
The beach is a perfect place for those who enjoy long walks, sport fishing, bodyboarding, surfing, beach volleyball, as well as for those who appreciate the natural beauty of a beach (dunes, flora and fauna).
At Osso da Baleia Beach, several environmental rehabilitation works were carried out, namely the installation of beach support facilities and the construction of wooden walkways used as pedestrian access to the beach, in order to preserve the dunes and existing vegetation.
